Nine-angle chassis documentation.

Every Rolling 40 Defender chassis will be documented from the same nine standardized positions used in our engineering validation protocol. Final Defender photography is in progress.

✱ Imagery Notice / Image slots on this page are designed placeholders awaiting the Defender chassis photography shoot. Each slot is dimensioned to its final image aspect ratio so layout remains consistent once real images are dropped in.

Close-up documentation on every major system.

The nine core systems that define the Rolling 40 Defender platform. Each component is sourced and tuned to the Defender’s weight, wheelbase, and intended duty cycle.

What's included in your Rolling 40 Defender chassis.

Every Defender chassis ships with the following eight systems as standard equipment, each sized and tuned to the Defender platform.

01

FRT.SUS / 01

Front Suspension

OEM Ford F-150 lower arms, knuckles, CV shafts, and hubs with FMI billet upper control arm. 7075 billet and sway bar links, geometry-matched to the Defender’s track width and front load distribution.

02

RR.SUS / 02

Rear Suspension

Triangulated 4-link trophy truck style rear trailing arm suspension with 11.5 inches of wheel travel. 7075 billet upper links and sway bar links, calibrated to the Defender’s cargo and passenger loading profile.

03

FRT.SHK / 03

Fox Front Shocks

2.5-inch Fox Racing Series internal bypass front coilovers, valved and spring-rated for the Defender’s front weight distribution with modern V8 power.

04

RR.SHK / 04

Fox Rear Shocks

2.5-inch Fox coilover rear shocks with DSC adjusters, tuned to the Defender platform for composed ride quality under both daily and expedition loading.

05

BRK.SYS / 05

Wilwood Brake System

6-piston front calipers and Dynalite rear calipers with integrated parking brake, sized for the Defender’s typical completed curb weight and recovery-gear loading.

06

AXL.HSG / 06

Moser 9" Axle Housing

3-inch diameter axle tubes with Defender-specific track width, fully welded housing designed to accept the Currie third member and Wilwood rotor package.

07

3RD.MBR / 07

Currie Third Member

3.73 gear ratio Truetrack limited slip unit with 1350 Chromoly yoke, geared for the Defender’s typical 35 to 37-inch tire fitment with modern overdrive transmissions.

08

FRM / 08

Chassis Frame

6″ x 3″ x 3/16″ laser cut main rails in 1020 high-tensile steel, held to ± 0.005 inches, dimensionally validated against original Defender body blueprints for a direct bolt-on fit.

TECHNICAL FAQ

Deep Technical Insights for Builders

01 Which Land Rover Defender models fit the Rolling 40 chassis?

The Rolling 40 Defender chassis is engineered for the Defender 90 and Defender 110 platforms. Body mount geometry is validated against factory Defender dimensions so original steel bodies drop on without re-work. If you have a specific build year or NAS versus Euro-spec question, flag it on your engineering call and we will confirm compatibility against your exact body.

02 Will my original Defender body bolt on without modification?

Yes. Body mount locations, bulkhead bolting, radiator support geometry, and fuel system routing are matched to factory Defender spec. You can pull your body off a corroded or fatigued factory ladder frame and set it onto a Rolling 40 chassis without drilling, trimming, or relocating mounts.

03 Which engines and transmissions is the chassis compatible with?

The chassis accepts modern V8 platforms including the Ford 5.0L Coyote, GM LT Series, Small Block Ford, and Ford 7.3L Godzilla. This is a meaningful departure from the factory Defender’s drivetrain options. Our Universal Motor Mount Kit covers over twenty configurations, and tunnel geometry accepts modern automatics along with manual swap conversions.

04 Does the chassis support both right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive bodies?

Drive-side configuration is captured on your build sheet and the corresponding steering box mount, pedal box clearance, and master cylinder location are configured at production. If you are running a specific RHD or LHD Defender body spec, confirm it with your engineering contact before production begins so the chassis ships configured for your body.

05 How does a Rolling 40 chassis affect registration and titling of my Defender?

The Rolling 40 chassis is a mechanical frame replacement. Titling and registration are jurisdiction-dependent and typically follow your existing Defender’s VIN and import status. Because registration rules vary significantly by state and country, our team will walk you through the documentation we provide during your engineering review so you can work with your local DMV or registrar.

06 What tire sizes can I run with each fender option?

Standard fender flares accommodate tires up to 35 inches on factory-spec track width. The Exclusive 5-inch Wide Stance flares are engineered for 37-inch-plus tires with widened track geometry integrated into the chassis. Final wheel offset and backspacing recommendations are confirmed with you during your engineering review call.
